I think evil is a presumed direction away from God, presuming there is some location or state where God does not exist and endeavoring to go there. The premise of evil is a denial of the omnipresence of God. That is why the word "follow" is so apt. It suggests a quality of location. God did not create evil, Satan did. Satan was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil just as Christ was the tree of life. You can read more about Eden in Ezekiel 31. People are not aware generally of the three distinct ages and the timeline did not begin with the creation of Adam. The timeline of biblical history begins with the world that was, the first earth age.
