How to know a female comet G-fish at a pet shop?
Q. I want to buy a female Comet G how can I tell the difference at the petshop? I want to get at least five of them. I dont want more males. The idea is to get a very big pond. I heard I need at least 1 to 2 gallons per Comet G.

A. There is no way to tell a female Comet when they are the size pet shops sell them. If you are serious about breeding them, you need to surf the Web and find breeders that sell breeder sized fish. They can be VERY expensive. I originally had 20, most being males. I couldn't tell the sex of them until they reached maturity(about 2-4 years old). The females will be heavier bodied, while the males are stream lined. My favorite lady out in my pond is over 8 years old. She is my best breeder and NOT for sale. I don't sell fish.
