How should I go about getting academic journals published?
Q. Completed a Social Work degree and interested in publishing some pieces of research I did along the way... Also looking to continue research in a variety of fields and I know it's very important to keep getting citations to advance an academic career. Can anyone offer any tips on getting academic journals to publish my articles, particularly in the field of Social Policy / Social Work?

A. You need to go to the reference part of the library or social sciences part of a university library. Read the magazines there on various topics associated with your subject. The magazines themselves, usually state whether they accept unsolicited work- i.e that without an agent. This is where you will find the specialist academic journals too. Get some ideas from the writers and artists yearbook about submitting articles. Any bookseller will get it for you. Also, if you could do an ma or phd on your subject, then getting in the publishing world is easier as your thesis at that level, will itself be considered a publication of sorts, as they tend to print and bind them and put them in the uni library. Where can I find statisics and journals about operating a business in the music industry?
Q. I'm a Business major and I am preparing a preliminary business plan for one of my courses. I plan on opening a recording studio, and expanding into a label. I need to include statistics about the music industry, and journals would help as well. If anyone knows where I can find credible research, I'd gladly appreciate it. Thanks -Astyn

How long do you save your diaries & journals?
Q. For all of you who write in journals and diaries on a regular basis, how long do you keep them? Do you ever throw them away/destroy them? Do you keep them for a couple of years? Do you keep the indefinitely?

A. My sister used to burn hers, but now she has a journal with a lock, so I think she might feel safe enough to keep it. Me, I like to keep mine. I know there will always be that nagging fear living inside you that someone may have read it or could read it, but, considering the amount of care and effort I put into hiding it, I don't think anyone can or will. So to answer your question, I would like to keep them indefinitely, although I have thrown the ones from early childhood where I could barely write. The one I am presently writing in will definitely stay with me forever. I hate the idea of burning or destroying a journal; in many ways, it's like burning your own soul.
